Is swinging good for your health?

Hutschn on the cover of the current FOCUS Health

That our HUTSCHN has become a cover model, we are of course very pleased. But what's the deal with health and rocking?

Worldwide - across all cultures: people like to swing and not without reason.

Whether in a bag attached to the saddle among the Plains Indians of North America, on the mother's knees in Afghanistan or in a cradle in Western cultures - gentle rocking calms children worldwide and has done so for thousands of years.

What is so special about the swing movement

The centre of balance in the ear is pleasantly stimulated by the steady, gentle movement and this has an effect on the whole body. In a swing, even slight shifts in weight repeatedly engage different muscles and the spine retains its natural curvature. At the same time, the upper body remains upright and breathing becomes much easier. This in turn improves the oxygen supply and blood circulation in the body - concentration and learning ability increase.

Rocking affects the brain

Rocking also has an effect on our brain: Endorphins are released, which not only make us happy, but also reduce the sensation of pain. The pulse rate slows down, stress falls away from us and it is easier to come to rest - no wonder that children fall asleep better in a rocking position and adults quickly regain their strength in a hammock, a rocking chair or, of course, a HUTSCHN quickly regain their strength. With rocking, many of us associate the time of childhood, when worries and duties were hardly existent and one lived carefree into the day. This has become so strongly imprinted that even today many people are immediately relaxed when they simply dangle their legs like a child in a suitable place.

In old age, rocking can then once again take on an important function. Scientific studies suggest that it can noticeably alleviate the symptoms of dementia. For example, the Institute for Innovations in Health Care and Applied Nursing Research (IGAP) reports on an American study on the website www.igap.de. According to the study, depression and anxiety decreased in the affected patients with increasing rocking time, and medication against these symptoms could be noticeably reduced. The people who enjoyed rocking and strove to do it of their own accord not only showed more balance, but also noticeable improvements in their balance, and the risk of falling fell significantly.

More reasons

Besides relaxation, however, there are numerous other reasons why we should swing much more often. Because swinging not only makes you happy, it also keeps you healthy and fit.

Swinging burns calories

The swing does not move by itself, but is driven solely by your muscle power. So it happens that when we swing we not only have fun but also burn calories.

Rocking is good for the body

The calories you consume don't come by chance. After all, you are moving in an unusual way. On the one hand, this strengthens your muscles, but your tendons and ligaments also benefit from the rocking session and are gently exercised and strengthened.

Rocking for the psyche

As mentioned at the beginning, rocking simply makes you happy. If you have the courage to act like a child every now and then, you will notice that you feel balanced, happy and satisfied after swinging. The fact that this activity takes place in the fresh air has an additional positive effect. Movement in nature provides plenty of oxygen in the body, which awakens the spirits and motivates to do more.

Exercise without realising it

Doing sport is a real challenge for many people. Swinging exercises without having to get up, wear special clothes or even pay for it.
